Mac Blogging - 2

written by Scott Watermasysk on Monday, July 21 2008

Windows Live Writer is still best desktop blogging tool on the "market", but as the name implies it only works on Windows.

I had been using TextMate for a while, but I have been wanting something a bit richer.

After a bit of debugging and testing, I was finally able to get Ecto to support slugs, extended entries, and tags by leveraging the Moveable Type and Wordpress versions of the MetaBlog API.

I am still hoping to get MarsEdit to work properly but its requirement to use the mt.setCategories method after saving post content and before publishing might be a deal breaker.

These changes will be available in v.Next of Graffiti.

I had recommended Ecto for a client who has bloggers on a mac, however not only was it challenging to setup the CS blog on Ecto, but they ultimately needed "split post" functionality as seen in WLW (where blogger can split the post between the excerpt and full body). Ecto didn't support that as of this fall.

My son had a mac and I had a really tough time setting up my blog on there. I use my webtv now. Mind you I am a complete novice when it comes to technology and hence it must have been tougher for me on the mac than for most users.

Partition your mac with Bootcamp (or use parallels) and have the best of both worlds
